BIRDEM Academy is a postgraduate institutions of BIRDEM General Hospital for conducting postgraduate courses for medical graduates. DAB, Diabetic Association of Bangladesh established BIRDEM Academy in 1986 with a view to creating skilled manpower in the field of Endocrinology & Metabolism to improve the care of patients in the country. Now BIRDEM conduct more than 18 (Eighteen) residency & non-residency postgraduate courses like MD,MS, M.Phil. Diploma & Ph.D in different subjects under University of Dhaka and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
Mission:
1. To Create requisite specialized quality manpower of high ethical standards for manning these institutions and for the country.
2. Specialized manpower to be created for providing diabetic healthcare and other specialized Medicare.
3. To Develop leadership in healthcare through dedicated and transparent management system.Vision:
1. To provide affordable healthcare services for all people.
2. Creating skilled specialized manpower in different disciplines of healthcare to give treatment for all patients.
3. To up to date postgraduate medical education and to make academic environment for graduate trainee in BIRDEM General Hospital - Courses

Currently, BIRDEM Academy conducts 12 (Twelve) MD/MS Residency courses and 06 (six) Non-residency Courses.
Residency Courses:
BIRDEM Academy conducts 12 (Twelve) MD & MS residency courses under University of Dhaka and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). From March 2014, all MD & MS courses turned into Residency courses. The name of the Residency courses are:

- Admission Procedure

Currently, the admission test of postgraduate courses of all Institutions of Bangladesh is conducted by BSMMU centrally. Selected candidates by BSMMU are admitted in BIRDEM Academy. Residency Courses starts in March and non-residency courses starts in July session in every year respectively.

BIRDEM Academy publishes BIRDEM Medical Journal since 2011. BIRDEM Medical Journal is published twice in a year (January & July).

Institutional Review Board (IRB), is a committee of BIRDEM, established to view and approve research proposal or thesis protocol for MD, MS, M.Phil. and Ph.D. students of BIRDEM Academy and for FCPS students and trainees. This committee sets for reviewing research proposal or thesis protocol twice in a year, one is held in September and other in March. Students should submit their research proposal or thesis protocol before 20 September and/or 20 March in each year.
Following documents to be submitted for research or thesis on IRB.
- Whole research proposal or thesis protocol
- Application addressing to the Chairman, IRB
- Check list (Face sheet) with prescribe form of IRB through proper channel
- Consent form in both Bangla and English
- Questionnaire or interview schedule (where applicable)
- Data collection sheet (where applicable)

BIRDEM offers clinical training for medical graduates in different clinical departments of BIRDEM General Hospital as an Honorary Medical Officer (HMO). Application procedure:
Doctor can do training for six or twelve month in any clinical or Para-Clinical department in BIRDEM General Hospital. Following documents to be submitted for HMO:
- Application addressing to Director General of BIRDEM General Hospital through proper channel.
- Photocopies of permanent registration of BMDC, Internship certificate, MBBS certificates & SSC Certificate
- Curriculum Vita
- 2 copies of photographs.
Laboratory Training:
BIRDEM Academy conducts a training programme under Research Cell in different laboratories of BIRDEM laboratory. Students of Medical technology, Dental Technology, Physiotherapy, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, MBBS, M.Phil or PhD can participate in Laboratory Training.

Following documents to be submitted for Laboratory Training/Field Training:
- Application addressing to Director General of BIRDEM General Hospital through proper channel in a prescribed form
- Photocopies of all academic certificates

- 2 copies of photographs.
